A Cooker Set Up From Your Phone
ESP32-S3 + FreeRTOS: BLE provisioning, WebSocket/JSON control, OTA updates, state machines.
Firmware for Foodease, an automatic cooking device with a companion mobile app, built at MachaDev Engineering in Islamabad, Pakistan, in 2025. ESP32-S3 firmware on ESP-IDF and FreeRTOS handles BLE provisioning, Wi-Fi WebSocket/JSON messaging with the app, over-the-air (OTA) updates, peripheral drivers and state-machine control of the cooking cycle.

The problem
An automatic cooking device needs simple setup from a phone, live control, and safe firmware updates in the field.
What I built
- ESP32-S3 firmware with BLE provisioning
- Wi-Fi WebSocket/JSON messaging with the mobile app
- OTA updates, peripheral drivers and state-machine device control
Stack
ESP32-S3 · ESP-IDF · FreeRTOS · BLE · WebSocket · OTA
Results
- Built at MachaDev Engineering (2025)
Setup starts with BLE provisioning from the phone; after that the device talks to the app over Wi-Fi using WebSocket and JSON for live control and status. Firmware updates arrive over the air, so devices can be updated in the field.
A state machine runs the cooking cycle, coordinating the heater and temperature sensing, the motors and the ingredient dispenser through peripheral drivers on FreeRTOS.
