An E-Bike That Reports Its Own Battery
ESP-based tracker: GPS, BLE and battery telemetry, synced by a Flutter app to a backend.
A smart telemetry and GPS tracking system for electric bikes, built at Geocell Canada and live in 2026. Embedded firmware on an ESP-based platform reads GPS plus voltage, current and temperature sensors to track each bike and its battery health in real time, and pairs over Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) with a Flutter mobile app that syncs the data to a backend server.

The problem
Electric-bike operators need to know where each bike is and how its battery is really doing: voltage, current, temperature, charge cycles and anything abnormal.
What I built
- Firmware for an ESP-based tracker with GPS, BLE, and voltage, current and temperature sensors
- Battery telemetry: charging and discharging behaviour, power use, charge cycles, battery condition and abnormal operating conditions
- BLE pairing with a Flutter mobile app that syncs telemetry and location to a backend server
- GSM/cellular designed as an optional extension; BLE through the phone was enough for the client
Stack
ESP · GPS · BLE · Voltage, current and temperature sensors · Flutter · Backend server
Results
- The complete pipeline: ESP → sensors → battery telemetry → GPS → BLE → Flutter app → backend server
- Built at Geocell Canada (2026)
Battery monitoring covers voltage, current consumption, temperature, charging and discharging behaviour, power and energy use, charge cycles, battery condition and abnormal operating conditions, giving detailed insight into battery performance and energy consumption.
GPS provides real-time location, BLE pairs the device directly with a smartphone, and the Flutter app synchronises telemetry and location with the backend for remote monitoring and data management. GSM/cellular connectivity was designed as an optional extension but wasn't needed, as the BLE link through the phone met the client's requirements.
